Young Eagle Day Pictures

The Young Eagles Mission- The mission of the National EAA Aviation Foundation's Young Eagle's Program is to provide a motivational aviation experience to youths wishing to participate, focusing on a demonstration flight.

The Young Eagles Goal - Our goal is to reach 1 million young people (nationwide) by the year 2003: The 100th year anniversary of the Wright Brothers' first flight at Kitty Hawk, and the 50th anniversary of the founding of EAA. To date, Chapter 21 pilots have given over 400 of these Young Eagle Flights!!!

What Will My Flight be Like? - You will see the earth and sky in a new and exciting way. You will experience the wonderful freedom of flight that many people only dream about. Like an eagle, you will soar among the clouds and understand the many possibilities that flight - and life in general - have to offer. Many people remember this experience for the rest of their lives. You will, too! After your flight, you will receive a certificate of completion and your name will be placed in the world's largest logbook.

Who Pays? - The Young Eagles Program is all volunteer, and all Young Eagles flights are provided free of charge! National EAA provides the local chapters with all paperwork necessary to carry out a rally. Funding for these materials comes from dues paid by all EAA members. Each pilot pays for 100% of his or her operating costs. Thanks go to all the pilots and volunteers that make this program an enormous success.

How Safe is Flying? - Flying in an airplane is safer than many other forms of recreation. Each Eagle Flight takes place in an FAA registered airplane by a licensed pilot. The flight is conducted according to federal regulations. No aerobatic or non-standard flown maneuvers will be performed. In addition, our local pilots must participate in a preflight safety briefing prior to each rally.

A Few Rules - Eagle Flight candidates wishing to participate must be between the ages of 8 and 17 and must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. You must remain at the airport with your Young Eagle! Also, each candidate's parent or guardian must fill out a registration form available only on the day of the Young Eagle's flight.

Millions of people fly safely in airplanes every year. However, an airport is not a playground. Listen and follow instructions given by the ground crew and pilots. Listen carefully for instructions on entering and exiting the airplane, do not touch any part of an airplane without the pilots permission and stay away from the propellers.

Come on out to have fun!- Remember, the EAA National Young Eagles Program is all volunteer! Both pilots and ground crew are donating all their time and efforts to make this program a success. We do this because we really love airplanes and flying, and we want to share this adventure with the youth of the Tri-State area.

So where do I learn more? - It's easy. Click Here to view a printable application. Fill it out and mail it in to the address provided. Be sure to supply your contact information (e-mail or phone#). You will soon be contacted by a pilot to arrange your Young Eagles Flight and/or inform you of the next scheduled Young Eagles Rally. There you will find information on the Young Eagles Program, theory of flight, The World's Largest Logbook, and much, much more.
