Pay particular attention to photo 1 of the gallery. Note the high tension towers, bridge, terrain and light standards. He's getting the gear down and about to turn north on I-75 near Blue Ash, OH. Base to final. He walked away AOK. No injuries. Not sure what happened to the SUV. https://local12.com/news/local/gallery/ ... es-on-i-75 Also, keep in mind the pilot maintained airspeed and did not stall or stall/spin. By managing airspeed and the energy he had, plus perhaps some residual power, he walked away. First rule, fly the airplane. Authors note: I had planned the same destination today KLUK from KEHR. I chose not to launch because the G-AIRMET showed light to moderate icing for more than 1/3 of the route between FL040 and FL120. This pilot would have been in the icing area for a much longer period coming from KUMP. Just something to consider. |

Headline: Small plane crashes on I-75 near Ronald Reagan (WKRC) Sorry, that doesn't meet my definition of a crash. That's a deliberate, skillful landing with a lot of luck and/or help from the Chief Sky Pilot. It drives me nuts when the media calls any off airport landing a "crash". |

Flightaware has posted the ADS-B data and track log for the accident airplane N66FN. Note the airspeed and descent rates. |
