As many of you know, my maintenance knowledge is limited to asking the FBO staff to fuel the airplane, remove bugs from windscreen and make sure the catering is on board. That said, I've been researching two topics of immense interest to most pilots and almost all owners - shock cooling and engine management. I've attached a video from Superior Air Parts regarding the latter subject (I'm still searching for one on shock cooling) that even I could follow. The presentation is about 55 minutes long with the remainder being the Q&A. Of particular interest to me was the discussion on compression testing and the use of the borescope. Note - sorry I couldn't find a link for non-EAA members. https://eaa.org/Videos/Webinars/Aircraf ... 8314156001 Attached here is the book referenced in the video: ![]() Downloaded 772 times |

While you're researching shock cooling, see if you can find anything about shock heating being a problem. I've always wondered why rapid temperature changes in one direction were supposed to be a problem, but rapid changes in the opposite direction were not. |
