Brief Description:
Nashville Flight Training and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University are pleased welcome Adjunct Professor,of Aeronautics, Tim Alexander. Tim has worked as a Merteorologist for the US Air Force and National Climatic Data Center. This 90-minute presentation focuses on the key principles of aviation meteorology, including the physical characteristics of the earth’s atmosphere and the various ways these properties impact weather.

Tim's discussions will include understanding the precursors to cloud formation, atmosphere-surface interactions, hazardous weather conditions, potentially adverse aviation effects, and forecasting. Additional topics will include atmospheric statics and dynamics, atmospheric stability, severe storms, tornadoes, and hurricanes. All meteorological principles will be discussed in terms of their potential impact to aviation safety.
Tim has a Bachelor of Science in Atmospheric Science from the University of North Carolina, and a Master of Science in Civil/Environmental Engineering from the University of Tennessee. He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Earth Sciences and Engineering, with a specialty in Synoptic Meteorology from the University of Memphis.
Tim has also worked as a meteorologist and engineer for Science Applications International Corporation, Advanced Sciences, Inc., and FedEx. In addition to serving at FedEx as a Meteorologist on their Winter Operations Team, he managed the GPS satellite operations for FedEx’s ground fleet. Tim currently works as a science and engineering Project Manager at Fisher Arnold Engineering Integrations, Inc., where he manages environmental engineering and meteorological projects.
